Enthusiasts following the HTA May Day trails at Helton were treated to some exciting races with some prominent kennels to the fore.
A total of 127 hounds contested the five trails with 41 taking part in the open restricted which brought the day’s trailing to a close.
Kirkhead Rebel had won for Roy Laidler, a former HTA chairman, when the course was used for a meeting nine days previously.
He showed again for a repeat in the opening senior trail, battling with Martha as they were a good way clear of the rest, and prevailed by a couple of lengths.

In the maidens Huntsman’s Quirk had a good battle with Thorn Pop before prevailing by a length, compensation for Denise Bland who had been third in the senior trail with Huntsman’s Que.
Ned’s Gain has been running well for Jonty and Evie Moore and finished really strongly to beat Huntsman’s Rebel, another from the Bland kennel who had won over the course nine days earlier.

The puppy maidens produced a close finish but it was James McLean’s Huntsman’s Rascal who finished best to edge out Sweet Dreams.
The open restricted completed the meeting and Stephen Riley’s Cautious came with a good rattle to beat Huntsman’s Nimrod.
