A teenage drink-driver whose offence came to the attention of police after she got lost in a residential area of Carlisle has been fined and banned from the road.
Mackenzie Ormandy, 18, was seen by a member of the public entering a car park at Central Avenue, Harraby, in the early hours of April 16 in a blue Ford Fiesta.
When Ormandy asked for directions to Morecambe, the witness smelled alcohol on her breath and contacted police.
She failed a roadside test and the lower of two evidential samples showed she was just over twice the legal limit.
Ormandy — a woman of previous good character — made full admissions in the aftermath, saying she had got lost and was asking for directions.
City magistrates heard today that the college student, of Leyland Lane, Leyland, Lancashire, had been in the Carlisle area promoting drinks that evening. She had consumed two vodka lemonades herself having not thought about the fact she may be required to drive later in the night.
Ormandy admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol when she appeared in court and was fined £120. She was also handed a 20-month driving ban which will be reduced by 20 weeks if she successfully completes a rehabilitation course offered to her by magistrates.
