Defender Sam Smith picked up a notable treble at the Workington Reds end-of-season awards.
Smith was voted by Reds supporters as their Player of the Year and by the Reds Independent Supporters Club group.
The icing on the cake was when he also picked up the coveted Players’ Player of the Year award from his team-mates.
The locally-based Smith had a relatively injury-free season after previous setbacks and produced consistently high performances.
Vice chairman Phil Norman made the Players’ presentation while fellow director Kevin Aitken handed over the trophy on behalf of the fans.
Matty Clarke’s stunning leveller in the 1-1 draw at home to Warrington Rylands won the Goal of the Season award, handed over by director Richard Lewthwaite.
Dav Symington, who scored some stunners himself, was the club’s leading scorer and received the trophy from recently appointed director, Richard Lewthwaite.
There was a nice touch when Reds’ modern day record goal-scorer Scott Allison presented the Development Squad’s leading scorer Thomas Houghton with his trophy.
Houghton also received the Development Squad’s manager’s player of the year award from the manager Brian Dawson.
His assistant Craig Routledge presented the Development Squad’s Supporters’ Player of the Year award to Tom Skinner. It was a double, too, for Skinner as he was also the Development Squad’s Players’ player of the year which was presented by Reds’ first team assistant manager Steven Rudd.
The Clubman of the Year award went to popular kitman Phil Grisdale and was presented by club captain Conor Tinnion.
There was a very special presentation during the evening to vice chairman Phil Norman by the Workington AFC Supporters Club group.
They handed over a magnificent cheque for £20,000 the result of their fund raising efforts during the season.
The Reds Independent Supporters Club also had awards to hand out on their behalf.
Their Player of the Year was Sam Smith; their award for volunteer/backroom helper went to Claire Partridge; their RISC member of the year was Liam Irving; their award to Director of the Year went to Les Byers while there was special thanks to Dave and Elaine Heron, who are stepping down from driving duties on away trips.
