
Distington continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 44-12 win at Glasson in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League Premier Division.
It had looked ominous at half-time when Distington led 32-0 but a gutsy response by Glasson meant they drew the second-half 12-12.
Man of the match Luke Johnson scored a try and kicked two goals for Glasson while Matthew Burns also got over the Distington line.
Distington’s man of the match was former Kells and Whitehaven half-back Tyrone Dalton who scored two tries.
The other tries came from Jack Penrice (2), Steven Conway, Aaron O’Donnell, Jack Speight and Phil Lister.
Scott George kicked six goals for the village side.
Ellenborough, who lost to Distington in the Cumbria Cup, are also unbeaten in the League and they enjoyed a comfortable 40-0 win against Wath Brow A.
They had led 16-0 at half-time but it had taken them 27 minutes to break the deadlock with a try from John Irving.
Two more tries followed on 32 minutes from Kevin Hoban and a minute before the interval by Louis Fearon. Owen Hoyles converted two.
Within three minutes of the re-start Andy Ostle crossed for the fourth Ellenborough try and he was followed over on 64 minutes by Leon Ackerley.
Ostle scored his second try on 68 minutes and Hoban grabbed his second five minutes from the end. Hoyles converted all four second-half tries.
In the third Premier Division game Lowca trailed Maryport 16-8 at half-time but came back strongly to win 62-22.
The Lowca tries were scored by man of the match Finn Barwise (2), Tony Harrington (2), Sean Gill, Declan Mckenna, James McNally and Emerson Allan. James Scott kicked five goals.
Maryport thought they were in with a great chance at half-time after scoring three tries in the first-half to lead through Josh Patterson (2) and Chris Ivison, two of them converted by Patterson.
But after the break all they could manage was Ivison’s second try converted by Patterson. Scott Atherton was Maryport’s man of the match.
There was a cracking Copeland derby in Division One in which Kells A and Hensingham A shared the spoils 26-26.
Kells had led 14-6 at half-time after going ahead on six minutes with a try from Kieran Halcrow.
Richard Marr crossed on 18 minutes and Dan Starkie improved before Hensingham hit back five minutes later with a try from Gareth Gate which Craig McAvoy converted.
But just before half-time Dylan Telford went in for Kells to score an unconverted try.
Within nine minutes of the re-start Hensingham had scored three tries, two of them converted by McAvoy to lead 22-14.
Josh Rogerson (42), McAvoy (45) and Travis Fyfe (49) seemed to have turned the game on its head.
It got better for Hensingham when man of the match Logan Holgate scored on 57 minutes to extend the lead to 12 points.
But Kells A grabbed the point from the draw with tries from Bailey Morton on 59 minutes and one from Clarke Chambers six minutes later, with Starkie improving both.
Harly Nelson was Kells A’s man of the match.
In the other Division One game Ellenborough A beat Egremont A 32-10.
But it had been much tighter at half-time when Elbra only enjoyed a 10-6 advantage.
Ellenborough had got off to the best possible start with a try on three minutes from Louis Fearon before they were shocked as Egremont A took the lead.
On 16 minutes Dylan Biggins scored a try, converted by Albert McKay and the were in front 6-4.
The lead lasted exactly a minute when Fearon went in for his second try which Brett Stevenson converted.
The game then looked as if it could have gone either way but Ellenborough were quickly on the scoreboard on the resumption.
Dylan Holm scored on 49 minutes, followed shortly afterwards by Kian Dempsey. Stevenson converted the first and Elbra A led 20-6.
Egremont A still had one more try in them through Jack Dale on 59 minutes but Elbra gave themselves more breathing space before the end with tries from Rhys Burr (66) and Aaron Lawson (74), both converted by Stevenson.
Recent signing from Glasson, prop Gary Tierney was Elbra A’s man of the match while Liam Kirkbride earned the nomination for Egremont A.
