Lee Postlethwaite is the latest player to return to his amateur roots after short spells in the professional ranks.
The Workington Town outside back decided to return to his community club Millom and was in the line-up which beat county rivals Seaton Rangers on Saturday.
Postlethwaite had been among a group of 16 amateurs who trained with Town ahead of the 2021 season and he was in the six who joined the Town squad for the League One campaign when they finished runners-up to Barrow.
He follows Hanley Dawson, a forward who announced he was returning to Millom last week while Millom have also welcomed back Ethan Kelly from Barrow.
Whitehaven have also experienced amateur signings returning to their former roots in what is seen as a growing problem for lower league clubs.
The absence of a reserve/A team and the lack of regular weekly games especially for those players who are not a member of the first-team matchday squad, is proving a problem prompting calls for the establishment of a serious second-team competition for clubs currently without that facility.
Town have paid tribute to Postlethwaite’s professionalism while at Derwent Park and have wished him all the best for his future.
A former BARLA Lions’ tourist he was stood down earlier this season because of concussion protocols.
