Birthday boy Keelan Leslie has signed for Workington Reds again following his arrival midway through last season.
Celebrating his 19th birthday today, May 23, it was just over a year ago when he was handed a six-month contract by Carlisle United after skippering the club’s Under-18s side.
During that time he joined Reds on loan for a month but was released by Carlisle early in the New Year which prompted a return to Borough Park.
A West Cumbrian, Leslie reacted to his signing by saying: “I’m very happy to have signed for the Reds. It was a no brainer really. I hope I can play a big part in our fight for promotion.”
Manager Danny Grainger added: “Keelan is a fantastic young player and I’m really looking forward to working with him and watching him develop in around the team this season.”
When he was on loan Leslie was limited to a couple of substitute outings in midfield but there was one game at Glossop when he got an early introduction through injury when he filled in for Kieran Charlton and played left-back.
Towards the end of the season he was used as a left back by former manager Chris Willcock when Matt Clarke switched to the right flank because of an injury to Kyle Harrison.
Brad Carroll, a surprise departure from Reds at the end of the season, has been confirmed as a new signing by Lancaster City in the League above, the NPL Premier.
