Two men have been taken to hospital after an incident on a Cockermouth building site.

They were working on the Lovell Homes’ Laureates housing estate, off Low Road.

Police said officers were called at around 9.35am to the estate, after receiving a report of a ‘concern for the welfare’ of the men.

The fire service and Great North Air Ambulance also attended the scene at Laureates Lane.

A fire service spokesman said: “The two workers had a stack of roof trusses fall on top of them while working on top of scaffolding.

“Crews from Workington, Maryport and Cockermouth working closely with paramedics released the two workers using high pressure airbags and lowered them to waiting ambulances using rope rescue equipment.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “Our critical care team were activated at 9.52am to reports of a fall in Cockermouth.

“After arriving on scene they assessed the injuries of two patients. The patients were taken to hospital by a North West Ambulance Service road crew.”

It is believed the men’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Cumbria police said they had informed the Health & Safety Executive.

Lovell Homes has been contacted for comment.
