Barrow’s new boss Pete Wild is reported to be chasing one of his former strikers at Halifax.
Football League World believe the Bluebirds are already in talks to sign 27-year-old forward Billy Waters.
Wild signed Waters during his three years in charge at the Shay and in his spell there scored 19 goals in 47 games, helping Halifax to fourth place,
That gave them a chance in the play-offs, where they were subsequently beaten by Chesterfield, but another successful campaign earned Wild a shot at League Two with Barrow.
Although he joined Halifax from fellow National League side Torquay, Waters has had plenty of experience in the EFL. He also earned a call-up to the England C team while at Halifax.
Although born at Epsom, he got his first chance with the Crewe Alexandra Academy in 2013 and in the next two years went on to play 25 times for the first team.
He was released by the club in May 2015, and moved on to Cheltenham Town, helping the team to win promotion as champions of the National League at the end of the 2015–16 season.
He was named as Cheltenham Town Player of the Year in 2017, before he was sold on to Northampton Town in June 2017. He spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at Cambridge United.
He was loaned back to Cheltenham in 2-019 and also spent time on loan at Newport before joining Torquay for the 2020/21 season. He had scored 27 goals in 101 League appearances for Cheltenham.
Barrow have now confirmed a fourth pre-season friendly as Wild continues to build for the start of his first season in charge.
On Tuesday, July 5 Wild will take his Barrow side to Hurst Cross to take on Ashton United of the Northern Premier League Premier Division (kick-off 7.30pm).
It’s the fourth friendly confirmed for pre-season with The Bluebirds also scheduled to visit Holker Old Boys on Saturday July 2, Witton Albion on Tuesday July 12 and South Shields on Saturday July 16.
