Kendal Town gets ready for life in North West Counties League

Kendal Town have re-signed three of their former players as they prepare for life in the North West Counties League.

New Mintcakes manager Jimmy Marshall is wasting no time in putting together a new-look, experienced squad.

So why not start with popular former players who still have plenty to offer.

Rob Wilson, Ben Thomas and Steve Yawson are all returning to Parkside Road after successful spells away.

Wilson, 31, lists Kendal among his former clubs, along with Workington, Lancaster and AFC Fylde.

He also had a spell playing in America with the Cincinnati Dutch Lions.

There had been speculation that Wilson was going to join Marshall at Milnthorpe after he had led the Corinthians to promotion in the West Lancashire League.

But Marshall then landed the Kendal job and Wilson has now signed up for him at Parkside Road.

Wilson, a popular player at all his clubs, can play a variety of midfield roles and is a recognised dead ball specialist.

The 22-year-old Yawson had started his career at Morecambe and scored five goals in five games for Kendal while on loan from the Shrimpers.

That included a hat-trick on his debut against Droylsden.

He had a brief three games spell (two goals) in the 2018/19 season back at Kendal before joining Milnthorpe.

Last season Yawson scored 28 goals to help Milnthorpe land the West Lancashire First Division title.

The third player returning to Parkside Road is Thomas who last played for the Mintcakes three years ago.

The 25-year-old full-back is a product of the Morecambe Academy and has clocked up over 150 appearances for Kendal and Bamber Bridge.
