Workington Reds’ Danny Grainger has earned his first trophy – and he hasn’t even taken charge of a game in his second stint at Borough Park!
The side have been presented with a trophy the team earned during Grainger’s first spell in charge – but had never picked up.
Saturday’s NPL annual meeting ahead of the presentation dinner in Birmingham gave the League the chance to correct the oversight and reward Reds for their efforts on the field.
The trophy was in recognition of Reds performances in February 2020 when they were chosen as NW Division club of the month. The season was prematurely ended in March with Reds sitting clear at the top of the table.

In the month they played five games, won all five, scoring 18 goals and conceding just one.
Their results were: Prescot Cables (away) 2-0; Ossett United (home) 2-0; Droylsden (away) 4-0; Kendal Town (away) 6-0 and Clitheroe (home) 4-1.
Director Les Byers, who received the trophy at the NPL AGM said: “Obviously it’s better late than never and we are pleased to receive the trophy for what was a memorable month of football for the club.”
