Visitors enjoy Forth’s open day

A Cumbrian engineering company held an open day to showcase what its innovative team can offer.

Forth welcomed visitors from business sectors to its base in Flimby, near Maryport, for the company’s first engineering open day.

Set up in 2000, Forth has produced world first projects and products to help change the face of industry and the company’s open day provided it the opportunity to highlight to other firms the high volume of pioneering work being carried out on their doorsteps.

Mark Telford, managing director of Forth, said: “Cumbria is a hotbed for world first innovations and technologies, but nobody makes a song and dance about the world class work which goes on every day.

“It’s been a while since we were able to throw open our doors and show people just what groundbreaking innovations our team have successfully completed, and are working on currently.

“Many people will drive past our great big building every day but they’ll be totally unaware of just what pioneering projects are carried out here.

“The talent which exists across the whole of Cumbria goes largely unnoticed outside of the county, but we want to show how we can positively change and revolutionise industry by working together.”

To encourage collaboration, Forth offered all attending businesses a free engineering problem solving service where its team members arranged a no obligation solution meeting to problem statements presented on the day.

Mark said: “We want to create an environment where businesses and organisations can work together and be a force for good, bringing world pioneering work to Cumbria.

“We’re immensely proud of being able to showcase the talent of Cumbria on a world stage, and we want to develop that to further benefit the local economy and help create more jobs.”

During the open day, visitors were able to view the latest innovations and projects carried out by Forth, with engineers and project managers on hand to talk through the projects and answer any questions on the products.

Among the projects on display was a vapour cannon manufactured to help disinfect workspaces on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic, a spherical pig retrieval tool to quicken up the clearing process in the oil and gas sector, a remotely-operated rescue robot to help with disaster recovery in hazardous industrial environments and an underwater robot devised to provide a safer alternative to clean up nuclear waste.
