Barrow boss Pete Wild has been explaining why he has added Solomon Nwabuoekei to his Bluebirds squad as his second signing.
The 26-year-old was released by Woking at the end of last season, despite making 41 league appearances.
It will be Nwabuokei’s first taste of the English Football League, having come through the Biggleswade age groups and spending time at St Albans.
Wild said: “I was really pleased to get the deal for Solomon done because he’s a player who I came up against at Halifax twice last season and he hugely impressed me.
“He’s got massive energy and enthusiasm and I certainly believe he can complement what we have in the squad already really well.
“I know there will be some who might say it’s a bit of a left field signing for us but, honestly, I am really excited about the amount of potential he has to improve and go to the next level.
“Now it’s about us stepping up and doing our job as coaches to bring out that improvement in him.
“It’s definitely a very positive start to our recruitment work to have Solomon and Billy Waters through the door. Good dressing rooms have good characters and, in particular with Billy, I know that he will have an impact on our younger players and support them through the ups and downs of a long season ahead.”
Wild has told supporters that there isn’t a lot of business going on around the leagues at present.
He reminded fans: “At this time of year, the players can hold all the cards, but it is all about selling them what we’re trying to do here at this club and hopefully our offers are as good as the ones they may already have on the table.
“Nobody gives too much away at this time of year but we’re doing our best to get deals done and hopefully we will have more news soon.”
