One of the leading hounds of recent years was back in winning mode last night in the HTA meeting at Potter’s Park.

Miterdale Shadow was the senior champion in 2020 but was unable to run last year because of injury.

He was puppy champion back in 2017 and Sophie Steele has got him back running this season, but he’s now in the veteran class.

Clearly he retains ability and he was a popular winner of the final trail of the night, beating Dot Wilding’s Wild Gypsy who has been running well for her.

The veteran trail rounded off the four trail meeting but unfortunately a return to Potter’s Park on Friday has been cancelled and the net trails will be at Wardhall on Sunday afternoon.

Potter’s Park had staged the Dog Produce meeting on Saturday so punters were looking for successful hounds from then to carry their money – with mixed success.

The one successful follow up came in the open maidens where Thorn Pop was successful again for Colin Satterthwaite. It is now well clear in the race for the Maiden Championship having accumulated 29 points so far.

Last year’s open maiden champion Imagine finished second on this occasion for Joy and Brian Lister.

The big battle of the night was in the puppy trail where the leading two in the table clashed after both had won there on Saturday – Ned’s Gain in the Dog Produce and Huntsman’s Rebel in the open pups.

They both came together on the finish but it was Huntsman’s Rebel who just proved the stronger in the closing stages. That extends her lead in the puppy championship to three – 11 wins to Ned’s Gain’s eight,

The senior trail had opened proceedings where the table leader Duchess Ava could only manage fourth place for James McClelland to stay on seven wins for the season.

Hunter’s Flame had finished fifth for Caroline Graham on Saturday but this time was the one to catch, coming home nicely clear.

Barncroft Spirit, running well for Alan O’Fee recently, continued her collection of tickets with second spot.
