Barrow ran riot in the second half of their friendly at Penrith, scoring seven goals as they ended the game at Frenchfield as 8-0 winners.
It had been less frantic in the first-half and although the Penrith keeper Arthur Le Bland had to make a couple of important saves, Penrith generally coped well although Barrow had the lion’s share of possession.
Apart from those good stops, Barrow were closest to scoring through Richie Bennett who got on the end of a Josh Kay cross to head over the bar.
Darren Edmondson would have been getting ready to compliment his side on getting through to half-time unscathed when Barrow opened the scoring.
George Ray found Josh Kay with a good ball over the top and he went on to lift the ball over the Penrith keeper for the narrowest of half-time leads.
Manager Pete Wild clearly asked more of his side at half-time because there seemed to be more urgency about them on the re-start.
Penrith were under siege and it was no surprise when Tyrell Warren headed home a flick from Bennett.
The floodgates opened as a result with Kay and Bennett scoring in quick succession before Kay sealed his hat trick, and made it five for Barrow, on 61 minutes.
That was when Wild made wholesale changes for the final half an hour.Solomon Nwabuokei’s third pre-season appearance was cut short, as he exited the field following a strong challenge just five minutes after coming on.
Barrow’s sixth goal arrived on 66 minutes with Mark Ellis thumping home Josh Gordon’s cross at the near post.
It was Gordon who scored the seventh with a cool header and he also added the eighth and final goal two minutes from the end.
