A seasonal Coastguard helicopter base will be set up in Carlisle.
Operating from April to September, the base will have a helicopter and crew available 12 hours a day.
Part of a £1.6 billion contract between the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Bristow Helicopters, another base will be set up at Fort William.
The agency said the locations were two of the busiest during the summer. The transition to the new contract will start in September 2024.
