Whitehaven felt the full force of Betfred Championship leaders Leigh Centurions as they crashed 64-4 at the LEL Arena.
It didn’t help that three of Haven’s four substitutes shouldn’t really have been involved if there had been anybody fitter to take their places on the bench.
Whitehaven really are the walking wounded and against a side with the quality of Leigh that was really a recipe for disaster.
The only joy for Haven was that they scored against the League leaders on 62 minutes with Perry Singleton following a clever grubber from Nikau Williams to make the touchdown.
But that left them trailing 58-4 and it was credit to Haven that the Centurions scored only one try in the last quarter of the game.
They had scored ten inside the first hour, three of them from Krisnan Inu while his ten conversions meant he went home with a 32-points tally – exactly half of Leigh’s bug score.
It’s been a tough fortnight for Haven, playing Featherstone and Leigh in back-to-back matches but now have to face-up to a Cumbrian derby in the Summer Bash at Headingley on Sunday.
