The Great Cumbrian Run will return later this year.

Now in its 40th year, the half marathon starts at The Sheepmount Athletics Stadium in the centre of Carlisle before taking competitors out through the city centre towards Wetheral and returning through Scotby village, Rickerby Park before a grandstand finish back at The Sheepmount.

It will take place on Sunday, October 2 and organiser Better has teamed up with Sport In Action to manage the event.

Sport in Action organise popular local events, including Carlisle Resolution 5k and 10k, the Castle 5k Series and Carlisle Santa walk and dash.

Brian and Claire Allen, of Sport in Action, said: “As a local, family run events company that have been organising events for over 10 years, we strive to put our athletes at the centre of our races.

“Starting in 2012 with three races, we are now running 12 successful local events including the Santa Dash where we have raised almost a whopping £50,000 for Jigsaw children’s hospice.”

Sport in Action has also worked alongside other Cumbrian events, including the Lakesman Triathlon.

Tom Rice, partnership manager at Better, said: “The Great Cumbrian Run has been a huge part of the Cumbrian calendar now for many years. We are excited to be working together with Sport in Action to deliver a successful and enjoyable event in 2022.”

The Great Cumbrian Run is proud to support local charities CFM Radio’s Cash for Kids, Eden Valley Hospice & Jigsaw and the Lake District Calvert Trust.

Athletes who choose to raise money for partner charities will automatically be set up with a SportsGiving page, to allow online sponsorship and donations.

The Great Cumbrian Run takes place at 10am on Sunday October 2. Race entries are available online at better.org.uk/gcr
