Reece Tomlinson, who made his senior Kendal debut in 2006, will captain the side in 2022/23.
The 6ft 6in lock forward takes over from Glen Weightman and said: “I am happy to be asked to lead my home town club and looking forward to the season ahead.”
He had graduated to the senior squad from playing his Colts rugby with Kendal and that first XV debut came in a League game at Stockport.
Tomlinson hasn’t been a one club man, however, as from 2014 he branched out and gained valuable experience with Preston Grasshoppers, Rossendale and Kirkby Lonsdale before heading back to Kendal during the pandemic.
Since returning, Tomlinson has been a positive figure running the line-out as well as taking other leadership duties, especially supporting outgoing captain Weightman.
Weightman took over the captaincy after a tough season and has led the team over the most difficult time for rugby in living memory.
He leaves the role with the team in a much better place than it was when he took over the reins.
A club website item revealing Tomlinson’s appointment said: “The coaching team would like to thank him for his efforts over the last “two” playing seasons.
“Glen will now adopt a role in the coaching team supporting backs coach Ian Voortman.”
Weightman said: “It is a great opportunity to start the transition into coaching and developing the young local lads coming through the ranks.”
