Plans to open a new smoothie business in Cockermouth have been revealed.
Mark-Anthony Midgley, of Maryport, wants to install a shipping container in the town’s Fairfield car park to serve smoothies Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
The container would be timber-clad and in the grounds of the former Allerdale council customer service centre, which Mr Midgley is planning to transform into a car wash.
The car park, off South Street, is next door to Sainsbury’s supermarket.
The plans are set to go before Allerdale council’s development panel next Tuesday, September 6.
A report to be discussed by members said: “It is not considered that the timber cladding would have an adverse impact on the area. The conservation area borders the car park and has a sufficient distance to not be impacted upon.
“The proposal is considered acceptable and is in a suitable position to target users of the existing facilities in the area.
“The area of car park in which the business will serve is not marked out for parking bays and would not impact the parking spaces on the car park. A
site meeting took place will Allerdale Parking Services where the scheme was explained and no objections were received as a result.
“It is considered that the area will benefit from this development.”
Cockermouth Town Council has not raised any objections.
If given the go-ahead, derelict and overgrown steps on the site would be removed, making space for the container and the land would be levelled before the smoothie hut was installed.
