A ram sculpture is planned for a roundabout in Kirkby Lonsdale.
Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council has applied for permission from South Lakeland District Council to install the metal sculpture on the roundabout at Dodgson Croft and the A65.
Town council chairman Mike Burchnall said: “A ram has often been associated with Kirkby Lonsdale and it’s the symbol used by the rugby club in particular.
“I think it’s just because it’s a rural town, a lot of sheep in the area, a lot of farming in the area.”
Cllr Burchnall said the ram had been designed by sculptor Andy Kay but not yet created.
Subject to planning permission being granted, Mr Kay will build the sculpture and gift it to the town.
Cllr Burchnall said the town council would pay for a stone plinth and the lighting.
One of Mr Kay’s sculptures – a horse – is outside The Plough pub and bed-and-breakfast at Lupton, near Kirkby Lonsdale.
