In a surprise deadline loan move 20-year-old Southampton defender Dynel Simeu has joined Tranmere Rovers until the end of the season.
Simeu played 18 games for Carlisle United on loan last season and proved a big success after Paul Simpson’s arrival at the club.
It had been widely suggested that the Saints would like to loan-out Simeu higher up the pyramid than League Two.
A couple of Championship clubs were linked with Simeu, as well as Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership so it has come as a shock to see him back in League Two
That switch means he will face Carlisle with his new Tranmere team-mates at Prenton Park on October with the return in Cumbria on Good Friday, April 7.
Speaking to the Tranmere website manager Micky Mellon said: “Dynel is a powerful and strong defender and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to bring him in for the rest of the season.
“We did want to add to that area of the squad with the injury list that we currently have so to add a player of Dynel’s quality, we’re really pleased.
“We’ll get him up to speed and integrated into the group as quickly as possible to add to our options.”
