Wath Brow Hornets have taken a big step towards the West Cumbria Youth League’s Under-16s title with a 30-20 win over Kells.
It was Kells’ final game of the season but was an important win for Wath Brow as it put them top of the league, two points clear of Hensingham and both have two games left to play.
Ahead of their clash on Sunday at Hensingham the Hornets have a small pull on points differential (158 to 154). That leaves Hensingham with a trip to Seaton, who haven’t won a game, while Wath Brow have a home game against Lowca who have won three out of ten.

In the game at Kells the Hornets had started best with a try on four minutes by Sam Dixon before Kells hit back with tries by Jamie Reay and Corey Chambers which were both converted by Haley Nelson.
By half-time, however, the Kells lead was down to two points at 16-14 as Wath Brow scored two by Matty Creasey and Charlie Biggins, one of which was converted by Jake Greenhough while Nat Anderson scored an unconverted try for Kells.

It was Wath Brow who emerged stronger in the second-half and although Reay scored the final try of the game for the home side Wath Brow were well clear by then.
Greenhough scored two tries and converted both while Aiden Butterworth also got over the Kells line for an unconverted try.
