A South Cumbrian home care company has pledged to offer all its workers extra dementia training.
Home Instead South Lakes’ home care workers are already City & Guilds qualified in dementia training and the firm is now offering its office staff the chance to take part in a bespoke Alzheimer’s Society-run course.
Latest government figures show that dementia was the leading cause of death in the UK and around 900,000 people live with the condition.
The firm said the training would equip employees with enhanced knowledge and skills necessary to support and plan care for clients living with dementia.
Dinah Ball has already taken part in the training. She said: “As an experienced dementia awareness trainer, I was really looking forward to the course and I was not disappointed! The course was jam packed with information, practical tips and great advice. I learned so much and will certainly be incorporating these gems into my own training in future.”
On September 13, Home Instead is hosting a companionship café at Morrisons Kendal, giving older people the chance to get together, meet new people and enjoy some complementary refreshments.
It will also host free dementia awareness workshops for people to learn about the different types of dementia and how they can help those living with the condition. They will take place on September 21 between 1pm and 2pm and another 5.30pm to 6.30pm at the Home Instead South Lakes office at Meadowbank House, Shap Road in Kendal.
