Huntsman’s Rebel raced to her 25th win of the season at Cold Fell last night.

She has seven weeks of the season still to go and has already notched two more wins that last year’s champion had at the end of the season.

Duchess Ava won that and is chasing a double as she has led the senior table for most of the season, yet has still not reached double figures.

Her challengers, though, have not been able to get on terms and although just on nine wins that’s three more than her four nearest pursuers all on six.

One of those, Miterdale Duchess is a consistent ticketing hound but she could only manage second over the Cold Fell trail.

Denise Bland’s Jenny’s Quest, now being trained by Lisa and Edward Crosby won by half a yard in a tight finish.

A number of kennels are reporting their hounds are recovered from the recent virus so competing numbers were up with 26 taking part in the opener.

There were 19 in the pups and the table leader Huntsman’s Rebel just held on as Alan Blacklock’s Busy Again produced her usual fast finish but just couldn’t get up to pip the table leader.

The open maiden race was won by Martin, Joanna and Molly Burrows’ Thorn Thunder ahead of Tania Satterthwaite’s Samcro.
