Week 18 of the DVARD summer league has concluded with defending Division One champion Kevin Basnett taking his fourth consecutive title.
The former county champion secured the title with a 5-0 win over Maryport’s Sal Cakmak with breaks of 48, 47, 38 and 34 to boot. Basnett now lies in an unassailable position eight points clear.
Workington’s Peter O’Hagan ended his season in strong fashion with a 5-0 victory over Workington’s Clive Lister. O’Hagan compiled breaks of 46, 35 and 34 in his win to lie in second spot.
In DVARD Division Two, Whitehaven’s Andy Moore moved a step closer to the title with a 4-1 win against Seaton’s Stephen Jackson and now sits five points clear of his nearest rival with two matches to play.
Darren Lawson is keeping the pressure on Moore as the Workington player recorded a valuable 5-0 victory over Paul Smith from Seaton.
That win keeps him within striking distance as the Division has become a two-horse race with Moore still strong favourite.
Mid-table saw Whitehaven’s Richard Kirkham edge out Dave Chapman of Workington.
Next week sees the DVARD knockout handicap semi-finals completed:
Defending champion Kevin Basnett (Scr) will face Richard Kirkham (+60) at the United Club on Monday 3rd Oct at 7.30pm.
Kevin Kirkham (+20) takes on Geoff Smith (+60) at the Vets Club on Tuesday 4th Oct at 8pm.
Two of the possible outcomes for the final could see father and son battle it out in Richard and Kevin Kirkham or two former county champions go head to head in Kevin Kirkham and Kevin Basnett.
