A successful Cumbrian businessman has been appointed as the first vice president of the county’s chamber of commerce.
Anand Puthran, chief executive of McMenon Engineering Services in Workington, will use the role to be an ambassador for Cumbria.
Chamber president, Allan Wilson, of Pirelli, said: “His extensive experience of creating, growing and managing businesses is an invaluable resource for the board and for our members. Anand is also very active in the Cumbrian business community and I’m sure will be an excellent ambassador for Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.”
Anand said: “I am honoured to take up the role and I look forward to helping to promote the county and its thriving business community.
“Having moved to Cumbria five years ago after acquiring a manufacturing business and seeing it not just survive but thrive through some of the most challenging times, I am eager to take on a role that encourages businesses in Cumbria to do the same. It’s simply a unique opportunity that is too good to miss.”
Chamber managing director, Suzanne Caldwell, added: “As a board we felt that, with the board as expanded in 2021 now well established and becoming significantly more active on behalf of the chamber, both within and beyond the county, the time was right to take the next step and appoint a vice president. Our constitution has always allowed for one or more vice presidents, but this is the first time we’ve appointed to the post.
“We’ve a tremendous team in terms of Allan, Anand and the wider board, representing our members and acting as great ambassadors for them and for Cumbrian business.”
