Newly promoted United Club made it two wins out of two in the L & L Property Contractors Snooker League.
They completed a second win of the new season when they beat newcomers Workington Golf Club B 4-1.
The game nevertheless started on a positive note for the Division Two side as the Golf Club’s Karl Newton won the first frame on the black.
The Golf Club looked to be going 2-0 ahead until Clive Lister pinched the second frame and this proved to be the catalyst the United Club needed.
Peter O’Hagan, Mark Suitor and captain Andrew Mitchelhill went on to win with room to spare for what ended up being a convincing match victory.
Workington Cons also made it two wins out of their first two games but the Division One outfit didn’t have it all their own way as Whitehaven’s Rack Shack won the last two for a 3-2 score-line.
The travelling Cons side had threatened a landslide victory as Julian Plaza, Richard McCarthy (30 break) and Dave Holland made it 3-0 in quick fashion.
This didn’t deter Division Two’s Rack Shack and with Peter McAvoy winning on the black in the fourth, followed by a thumping win for the in-form Andy Moore in the last, two tidy points were obtained in what turned out to be a competitive fixture.
Workington’s Station Road Clubs’ Division Two title challenge sprung into life as they defeated Maryport Social 4-1 with some impressive displays.
Tom Thompson opened up with a good victory in the first and with Darren Lawson compiling a frame-winning break of 30 in the next Station Road were soon 2-0 up.
A thumping win for Mike Walker took it to 3-0 and as Mark Robertson won the next a whitewash looked on the cards.
This thought, however, didn’t cross the mind of Maryport’s Andrew Scott and with a solid performance he took the last to record an important point.
Finally, Workington Golf Club A made light work of their fellow Division One opponents, Workington’s Veterans Club, with a superb 4-1 home victory.
Vets captain, Kevin Basnett, made a break of 31 early in the first frame which proved to be enough to take it, however that was to be as good it would get for last season’s TKO Plate champions.
A win on the blue for the Golf Club’s Mark Cowen made it 1-1 and a victory on the pink for Bryan Walker soon made it 2-1 to the home side.
An impressive performance by Lewis Tilley in the next gave the golfers an unassailable 3-1 advantage and with teammate Phil Sorfleet taking the last they ended the match on a real high.
