Ground conditions made it a lottery at Northallerton where Carlisle City were beaten 2-0 in the Northern League.
Although the same for both teams it meant there was next to no football played with very little goal-mouth action or chances.
City manager Jim Nichols said: “Players were finding it very difficult to keep their feet and the bet chance the teams had came from set pieces.
“I’m afraid we made a mistake on one for the first Northallerton goal and in a match like that it was always going to be an important score.
“There was one particular attack of ours when we hit the post, then the back of the keeper’s head, then the bar and finally a shot was blocked.
“It’s always disappointing to lose but this was a game where neither team could play any of their usual football.”
Ethan Henderson had put Northallerton ahead on 41 minutes and then in the last minute of the game Nathan Stephenson scored the second.
