
Huge crowds gathered to enjoy Workington’s lights switch-on despite the wind and rain.
The town centre came alive with festive cheer despite last minute changes to the timetable of events due to the weather and visitors enjoyed a Christmas market, various family entertainment and live music
The mayor of Workington Denise Rollo started proceedings and throughout the day, a selection of live acts, managed by HMV Workington, performed to get everyone in the Christmas mood.
Entertainment included a funfair, magic shows, face painting, gingerbread workshops, soft play, puppet shows, science booth workshops, pet encounter, walkabout characters including Spiderman, the Grinch, the Frozen sisters and Blue the velociraptor as well as the popular giant snow globe. The old Vision Express store was also transformed into Santa’s grotto.
Live music acts included John Hastings, Grace Price, Phil Lewthwaite, WADAMS, Emma Hunt, The Unsung, Indie Street Club, MyLittleBrother, Carnegie Singers and Palo Alto.
The festival came to a close at 5pm for the main light switch on by the mayor and her Christmas card competition winners.
A spokesperson from Workington Town Council said: “Well…what can we say? Thank you Workington! There is nothing we love more than when we all come together as a community.
