
A Workington junior football club and its 600 members should be in for a wonderful Christmas present.
Workington Juniors’ long wait to find out whether the Ranch pitches at Moss Bay can remain as their permanent home is almost over.
Government money to complete the purchase pf the land by Workington Town Council has been confirmed.
Workington MP Mark Jenkinson said he made sure the Government fast-tracked the funding application to the Public Loans Board.
He added: “This has been approved and the town council was notified early December. The board are just waiting for the funds to be drawn down, and have confirmed they will act quickly to get the funds to Workington Town Council. The town council must now act at speed.
“They have an emergency meeting tonight where I hope they will agree to all outstanding issues, to draw down the money and to complete the transaction January, protecting the Ranch for Workington Juniors Football Club.
“They must issue a long lease at a rent that is sustainable for the club, in order that they can then draw on other funding sources to develop facilities at the Ranch with my assistance.”
The Juniors have exciting plans and promises of financial support to develop their facilities on site.
One club member said: “This will be the best Christmas present these youngsters, and their parents, could have had.”
