Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont has joined Carlisle United on loan for the rest of the season.

McCalmont, 22, spent the 2020/21 season on-loan with Oldham Athletic where he scored 10 goals in 39 appearances.

After impressing at Boundary Park, he was rewarded with an international call-up by manager Ian Baraclough for fixtures against Malta and Ukraine.

He had previously appeared at every level for his country from under-17 upwards.

Last season he moved up to League One level with Morecambe where he netted once in 33 appearances.

At Elland Road since he was nine he has played twice in the Carabao Cup for Leeds in a series of appearances in the EFL Trophy.

Manager Paul Simpson said: “I’m delighted that we’ve secured Alfie for the rest of the season.

“He’s a quality footballer who will add good competition to the group.

“I’m looking forward to working with him over the coming weeks and months.”

He will wear squad number 35 for his time at Brunton Park.
