Neil Danns has been confirmed as Macclesfield head coach, on a deal initially running until the end of the current campaign.
Danns has impressed since being named in an interim capacity last month following the departure of Dave McNabb, with the Silkmen winning five and drawing one of their six matches since the start of December, scoring 20 goals and conceding just twice.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kidsgrove Athletic, they sit eight points clear at the top of the Pitching In NPL West Division.
Workington sit third behind Macclesfield and Leek, 11 points and three respectively behind their rivals.
Danns will continue to be assisted by Mark Duffy and newds of his permanent appointment came after an eye-catching 4-0 win over nearest rivals Leek Town.
“It’s a great honour. It all has to go down to the players, staff and everyone involved,” said Danns.
“The main thing for us, as it has always been, was coming in and getting results, getting the team smiling and playing a brand of football that everyone is excited about.”
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kidsgrove Athletic, they sit eight points clear of Leek at the top of the Pitching In NPL West Division and hot favourite to book the automatic promotion place.
Director of football Robbie Savage said: “In some respects this was a difficult decision to make – as with things going so well, the question in the back of my mind was why change things?
“But having seen the player’s application and incredible desire to fight for Neil and Mark over recent weeks, that told me that this move was the right one.
“We all wanted Neil and Mark to get the job on a permanent basis – but we had to make sure that this was right for all parties first.
“Now the players need to work harder than ever before for both Neil and Mark, as well as the club in general to give us the very best chance of achieving all our goals.”
