Carlisle United and Barrow were both left without a game this afternoon as the latest freeze hit their scheduled fixtures.
But Barrow have complained about the referee’s decision as they felt the Holker Street pitch was perfectly playable.
Despite a soft playing surface, referee Sam Barrott took the decision to postpone the Bluebirds’ home game with Salford City.
However Barrow weren’t happy and have confirmed they have approached the EFL for a written statement to enquire as to why the game has been postponed, and to make an official complaint.
In a statement Barrow said: “The Club would like to apologise to both Barrow and Salford City fans who travelled for the fixture. Please understand this decision was entirely out of the club’s hands and we were both confident and keen for the game to be played.”
Carlisle should have been at Bradford City but the match referee assessed the playing surface at the University of Bradford Stadium at 12.00pm, deeming it unplayable, despite it passing an inspection yesterday afternoon.
Temperatures have not risen sufficiently ahead of kick-off, with areas of the pitch partially frozen at the south end of the ground.
Bradford City say they would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. All tickets purchased for the game remain valid for the rearranged date, which will be confirmed in due course.
Fourteen of Saturday’s matches in the English Football League and 10 National League fixtures have been postponed because of frozen pitches.
Blackpool’s Championship match with Huddersfield at Bloomfield Road has been called off.
The League One fixtures at Bristol Rovers, Lincoln City, Morecambe and Peterborough were also postponed.
In League Two, just three matches have survived the freeze – at Colchester, Hartlepool and Stevenage.
