People are invited to learn new recipes, share food and reduce food waste at four pop-up Winter Warmer events at Kendal’s Stricklandgate House.
The free events take place between 10.30am to 12.30pm on Thursday February 2 and Thursday February 16 and Thursday March 2 and Thursday March 16.
It is an extension to the Kendal Community Larder and Kendal People’s Café, run by Waste into Wellbeing.
Stacy Hurley, of Waste into Wellbeing, said the project saved 23 tonnes of good food going to landfill.
Stacy said: “The Winter Warmer events are another way to bring people together to eat, connect and reduce food waste. Good quality surplus food, from local food businesses and Kendal allotment holders, is collected, stored and redistributed to support the community.
“On the first and third Thursdays in February and March, people can pop in for a brew and enjoy a chat in a warm space. There’s an informal cookery demo, using surplus food, with an invitation to share tips and ideas, and taste the results. We also have recipe packs to give out.
“It’s open to anyone, and free of charge, with a voluntary donation for refreshments. People can then stay and shop from our Community Larder, which is open noon to 1.30pm.
“This is all about bringing people together around good food, helping with social isolation and giving people a chance to access healthy food, try something new, repurpose fresh, surplus food and save money.”
