Former Workington rider Adam Roynon will be at Northside for the opening meeting of the 2023 season – competing against the revived Comets.
First meeting opponents Edinburgh have added the experienced Roynon and newcomer Dayle Wood to their National Development League side.
Roynon will race for the Monarchs Academy alongside his commitments in the Cab Direct Championship with Poole, whilst British passport holder Wood makes his UK debut after transitioning to speedway in Australia in 2018.
Team boss Scott Wilson said: “Adam is, in my opinion, the biggest bargain in the league! To be able to bring a rider of his quality and experience into the side on a 6.00 average is a real coup for the club.
“Adam will make a huge impact on the track in terms of his points scoring ability, but also off it by passing on his wealth of knowledge to our younger guys. His enthusiasm for speedway is infectious, he’ll be invaluable in the pits for sure.
“Being able to bring Dayle into the side on a 3.00 average is another bargain signing given his pedigree in Australian Speedway.
“His goal this year should be to put some points on that average and push himself into the main body of the side. I’m excited to see how far he can go in 2023!”
Barrow-born Roynan suffered a life-threatening injury after signing for the Comets in 2009 while practicing with Great Briitain at King’s Lynn and before he had ridden for Workington.
An exciting, all-action rider he has suffered a number of serious injuries over the years but has always bounced back.
