A revived Midweek Cricket League for West Cumbria could be up and running again this summer.
The old West Cumbria Midweek League ran from the 1970s to 2004 while the West Allerdale and Copeland Cricket Association organised mid-week cricket from the early 2000s to 2015.
The revival is being championed by Nathan Canfield, the new social media officer for the Workington club.
He said: “I’m trying to restart a Midweek League for West Cumbria and have five teams interested at the moment but hoping for more.
“I restarted a midweek team for Workington last season and we played 10 friendlies for some fun and decided to carry on and hopefully set up a league again.
“We currently have Workington, Cockermouth, Cockermouth Accies, Isel, Seaton Rangers and a team organised by my mates at Workington.
“We are hoping that other clubs, businesses or former teams will be keen enough to join us and have a decent sized league to start with.”
A number of local factory teams and village sides have contested the Midweek League over the years.
There was an original Midweek League in the 1950s when rugby league legend Ike Southward was a key player for Ellenborough.
