Holders Carlisle City are the first team through to this season’s semi-finals after a 5-0 win over Unisun Athletic.

Unisun agreed to the tie being staged at Gillford Park as they waived home advantage and played under lights.

City were fastest out of the traps and Unisun keeper Ben Gregg did well on a couple of occasions before being beaten on 16 minutes by Aaron Bradbury with a strong shot from 12 yards.

Matty Hartley made it 2-0 with his first senior goal after half an hour and followed-up ten minutes later with his second to give City a 3-0 half-time lead.

It had been fairly straight forward for the Northern League side but Unisun came out fired up for the second-half and City keeper Stephen Townsley was given work to do. City were hardly out of their own half for the first 20 minutes.

Gradually, however, City came back into the game and it was Gregg who was the busier keeper.

There was nothing he could do on 71 minutes, however, when City were awarded a penalty and Robbie Ivison scored his first goal for the club from the spot.

Just like Hartley he wasn’t long in adding his second, notching a fine effort on 79 minutes. He almost completed a hat-trick but hit the post in the closing stages.

Two of the other quarter finals will be played this Saturday – Keswick v Penrith and Greystoke v Whitehaven. The final tie between Workington and Carlisle United has been rearranged for March 7.
