The first of those for Penrith on Saturday is at Carlisle who are without a win and last week had to cry-off from their League fixture at Northern through lack of an experienced front row.
Defeat to Penrith in this top versus bottom clash would mathematically complete their relegation, rounding off a hugely disappointing season in which good fortune has virtually deserted the club.
Carlisle have a habit of rising to the occasion in this fixture but it is difficult to see anything but a comprehensive Penrith victory, given what is at stake for the Winters Park side.
Penrith also have a tasty Cumbria County Cup final to look forward to against neighbours Upper Eden, although no date has so far been agreed for the showdown although it will be played at Kendal.
Keswick, meanwhile, are still battling hard to avoid the drop with Carlisle and did themselves a power of good last week with a 29-19 home win over South Shields Westoe who now occupy the second relegation place.
That had followed a superb 12-10 home win over Middlesbrough and with four games to play are seven points clear of South Shields but the north east side still have five games left.
There’s a big test for Keswick on Saturday, though, as they visit Morpeth who you assume will have been seriously upset by their heavy defeat at Penrith. Their reaction will be interesting.
Aspatria have climbed nicely out of trouble and can surely expect to finish in a comfortable mid-table berth – top of the much-discussed bottom six in a distinct League split!
Three of their last four games are against teams immediately above them in the table, starting at Durham City.
In Regional 1 North West both Cumbrian clubs have home fixtures with Kendal hosting Northwich and Kirkby Lonsdale entertaining Manchester.
Third bottom Kendal are 14 points behind Northwich, the team immediately above them while Kirkby Lonsdale, without a point all season face a Manchester side solid mid-table.
In the Counties Cumbria Conference 1 Egremont host Millom; leaders Upper Eden travel to Whitehaven and Wigton entertain Cockermouth.
The games in Conference 2 are: Creighton v St Benedict’s; Penrith A v Hawcoat Park and Silloth v Workington.
