Barrow are still waiting for their first win of the season in the Betfred Championship.
But they did secure a first point when they drew 18-18 at home to Newcastle Thunder, although staying bottom of the table.
A penalty 10 minutes from the end by former Whitehaven half-back Nikau Williams earned Newcastle the draw, to take them to three points for the season.
Barrow remain bottom of the table, the only side in the competition yet to win a game.
After a fairly even start to the game Barrow started to force the pace and were on top when they took the lead on 17 minutes.
Wells made the initial burst and when the ball was moved right skipper Jarrad Stack was there to barge through the last defenders to get the try which Ryan Shaw improved.
Newcastle drew level on 31 minutes when a little grubber kick from Williams was followed-up by Alex Clegg, the winger who followed coach Chris Thorman from Workington to Newcastle, and he got the touchdown. Williams converted.
Three minutes later Thunder were in front. The Barrow defence was sliced open too easily and centre Marcus Walker, who spent time on loan at Whitehaven last season from Hull, charged over for an unconverted try.
It had been a frustrating first half for Barrow, changing round 10-6 behind after enjoying a lot of possession.
However, within a minute of the resumption theuy were in front. Great handling across the line saw Jake Carter go over to level the scores and Shaw’s conversion edged them in front.
Yet hardly had the congratulations finished than Newcastle were in again. Once more suspect defence cost Barrow as Williams nipped through to score and his conversion gave them a 16-12 advantage.
On 55 minutes it changed again when a spell of strong Raiders pressure ended with Stack charging over for his second try and Shaw’s conversion put the hosts in front/.
That’s the way it stayed until Williams landed the penalty to earn Thunder a valuable point,
