Cockermouth have signed 29-year-old Sri Lankan all-rounder Sameera Sadamal as their professional for the coming season.

Sadamal is no stranger to the Cumbria League having spent three seasons in the south of the county with Millom.

In his three seasons – 2017 to 2019 – he scored 2447 runs with an average of 44.49 and took 108 wickets with his off-spin.

For the last two summers he has plied his trade with Cleethorpes in the South Yorkshire League.

In his first season he made 780 runs at 43.33 and took 58 wickets at 13.59 as the club secured promotion back to the ECB Premier League.

He returned to Cleethorpes in 2022, bagging 54 wickets at 25.93 and scoring 746 runs at 33.91 as the club achieved their aim of retaining their place in the Premier League having coming up at the end of the 2021 season.

An ECB Level 2 coach, Sadamal also fits the bill for that essential side of a professional’s work.

Sadamal joins an impressive list of professionals who will be plying their trade in the Cumbria League this season.
