Activists are planning a day of action to ask Cumbria’s councils to withdraw its pension plan from fossil fuel companies.
Cumbria Divest says the Cumbria Local Government Pension Scheme has around £60 million tied up in fossil fuel companies and wants the authorities to stop.
Activists will be in Market Square in Penrith tomorrow, March 24, from 10am to noon and at the birdcage by Finkle Street in Kendal from 2pm to 4pm.
Last year, Waltham Forest became the first council in the UK to stop investing in fossil fuels and Cumbrian campaigners hope the county will follow suit.
