Carlisle MP John Stevenson has announced that the Northern Nuclear Conference will be held in Cumbria this year.
The event will be held at Carlisle Racecourse on June 30 and will include a number of high profile speakers representing the sector locally, nationally and internationally with key Government figures expected to attend.
It comes as the Government announced last week, the creation of Great British Nuclear, heralding a new era where the UK is highlighted as a great place to invest in new nuclear energy with nuclear power being seen as sustainable, low carbon, secure and affordable.
Mr Stevenson said: “I am delighted to announce that arrangements are underway for a Northern Nuclear Conference which will build on the success of the first two Cumbrian nuclear conferences held in 2016 and 2018.
“The Government’s announcement at the Spring Budget last week, is very welcome. The nuclear industry has made great progress in recent years in building a secure and affordable energy future for communities across the UK. The recognition of nuclear power in this future energy mix is welcome, so too the support for carbon capture, usage and storage technology in tackling climate change.
“I am looking forward to hearing the thoughts of politicians and industry leaders on the opportunities the nuclear industry can deliver.
“The event will bring together like minded people, organisations and businesses who are determined to bring the benefits of nuclear developments and opportunities to Cumbria and the wider North.”
