The West Cumbria Midweek League made a welcome return on Bank Holiday Monday with the first game of a new season.
The league has not operated for a while but a concerted effort during the winter to get a competition up and running again has proved successful.
The opening game at the Valentine Ground was a local derby between Workington and Workington TLM (Threat Level Midnight) which produced almost 300 runs.
In their 20 overs Workington made 148-4 with top contributions from Ben Scott (30ret), Workington Town rugby league forward Grant Reid (30ret) and Jack Williamson (25).
TLM responded well and reached 149-5 with 2.5 overs to spare as they had valuable contributions from Jack Hunter (32ret), Mattherw McClure (32ret), Tom McGeen (30 ret) and Ryan Clubley (22no).
The next game is on Thursday when Cockermouth are due to host Broughton – a second planned fixture has been postponed because Seaton Rangers have unfortunately pulled out of the competition.
