A Carlisle woman accused of stabbing her partner in the leg during a drunken row has appeared in court.
Courtney Bruce, 28, faces one charge.
This alleges that she unlawfully and maliciously wounded the man during an incident which is said to have taken place on April 9 last year.
Bruce made a brief appearance in the dock at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Prosecutor Graeme Tindall alleged: “During the course of a drunken argument she stabs her partner to the leg.”
Mr Tindall suggested the case was not suitable to be heard at the magistrates’ court — where the maximum possible sentence available is six months’ imprisonment — as the punishment starting point for any conviction on the wounding charge was 12 months.
Bruce, who was represented by lawyer Chris Toms, gave no indication of plea to the allegation during today’s short hearing. She spoke to confirm her name, date of birth and address.
Magistrates concluded the case should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court. Bruce, of Borrowdale Road, Carlisle, is due to appear there in front of a judge on July 3.
In the meantime, she was granted unconditional bail by the magistrates.
