Hounds had to contend with another very hot day at the five race card organised for the Twice Brewed Show.
First to run were the seniors with a field of 10 and table leader Winterfell was back running after a short spell resting.
The pre-race debate was whether he could repeat his win of a couple of weeks ago when he beat his brother Kirkhead Rebel at the same venue. Reebok and Miterdale Duchess were also back running.
Due to the weather the trail had been shortened and despite it being hot there was a cool breeze up on the tops.
As the senior hounds came back in to sight Winterfell had done it again and had a substantial lead over the other hounds, which demonstrated what a good dog he is in that he can run whatever conditions are thrown at him.
He finished well in front of the second hound, Brian Graham’s Reebok, with Julie Birkinshaw’s Bretton finishing in third. Miterdale Duchess finished in fifth place.
The win for Winterfell takes him to 10 points in the championship five points clear of his nearest rival, Miterdale Duchess who at the moment can’t seem to keep up with him on the trail. Winterfell was also awarded the Challenge Shield for the win.
The next race to be slipped was the Senior Maidens with only six runners. Imagine was sent off favourite but as they showed on the finish it was Ian Fleet’s High Crag that came on his own, a long way ahead of any other hounds.
It had been a hard race for the hounds as what should have taken them three quarters of an hour took them well over 50 minutes.
Christopher Henderson’s Shine On finished in second place and Imagine was third for Joy and Brian Lister.
The first of the shorter trails was the Open Pups with six runners. Sent off favourite was the current championship leader Rodney Raider with Artist and Silver Dream close behind in the betting.

As they came back in to sight it was Bill Melon’s Artist that was in front with a bit of a lead from Rodney Raider. However as they got closer to the finishing line Artist just started to fade and Rodney Raider came through just before the line to snatch the win.
That victory took him to 11 in the championship table and again shows how well he can adapt to the terrain and the weather conditions. He has demonstrated that for a big hound he can run in the warm weather.
The Puppy Maiden race saw just six runners and it was Colin Satterthwaite’s Thorn Gift who came with a lead from litter mate Thorn Bear owned by Martin and Molly Burrow’s. Only three finished with Christopher Henderson’s other hound Light Up taking third place.
The last race of the day for Open Restricted hounds had 12 runners with last week’s winner of the Senior Maidens race at the Bitch Produce meeting Delta Spiral running and starting as favourite on home territory.

However, as they came onto the finish it was Overwater Eddie for James Irving who came with a lead to win from David Clifford’s Eden Romina and Eden Rayna. The favourite Delta Spiral only managed fourth with Cracking Spirit in fifth for the Mellon’s and Co and Maverick getting sixth place for the McMasters.
The win for Overwater Eddie was the second win in a week following his success at Cleamire on Wednesday. Again he’s another big hound that obviously likes the warm conditions.
Action moves back down south of Carlisle and there will be a three-race card at Wardhall, just outside of Gilcrux on the road towards Parsonby, on Monday evening with the first race slipping at 6.30pm.
