Wath Brow A have set up a tasty Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup semi-final with main CARL rivals Distington.
The Hornets proved too strong for Glasson Rangers in their quarter final tie as they pulled away in the second-half to win 40-16. At half time Glasson had been very much in tough, only trailing 16-10.
After half an hour, in fact, battling Glasson had held a 10-6 lead thanks to tries from Connor Wilson (15) and Ben Humm (30), the first converted by Luke Johnson.
Jamie Devine had traced 80 yards to give Wath Brow a ninth minute lesad and Jenson Olstrum converted.
They needed a second try from Devine on 36 minutes and one from Dave Bradley right on half-time, converted by Olstrum for their 16-10 interval lead.
Glasson’s challenge faded away in the second-half after they were hit by two tries in the first seven minutes.
Devin completed his hat-trick a minute into the second period and Olstrum went over after 47 minutes – the first converted by Olstrum.
It stayed at 26-10 until the 61st minutes when Luke Davison increased the Hornets lead with a try converted by Devan Sharp.
Two more unconverted tries for the home side followed from Luke Jeremy and Daley Stables, and when Luke Johnson nipped over for a Glasson try and converted, it was merely a statistical note with Wath Brow home and hosed.
Wath Brow’s semi-final opponents Distington got through without breaking sweat after Ellenborough A pulled-out of their scheduled quarter final clash.
The other two quarter finals had been played at the end of April when Maryport beat Kells A 22-18 and Cockermouth beat Egremont 44-36.
The two semi-finals will now be played in the week ending July 15, and are Wath Brow v Distington and Cockermouth v Maryport.
Cockermouth were involved in Holmen Iggesund Premier Division action on Saturday and, perhaps surprisingly, were beaten 34-24 at home to Hensingham A.
Although Cockermouth had got off to a flier with a try in the first minute by Lewis Shield it took only another four minutes for the visitors to go in front 6-4. Josh Burr went over and Ryan Bragg converted.
Back came Cockermouth with an unconverted try by Ethan Cross before two tries inside six minutes from seasoned campaigner Dean Bragg (26) and Gary Hanlon (32), the second converted by Dylan Bragg, gave Hensingham a 16-8 lead.
Cockermouth finished as they started the half with a try in the last minute from Jamie Lightfoot.
It was Hensingham, however, who built on their interval advantage with tries by James Stannaway (43) and Reuben Butterworth (52), the second converted by Ryan Bragg, to extend their lead to 26-12.
Seamus Hutton responded with a try for Cockermouth and Ryan Scott converted but back came Hensingham and Butterworth made the line for his second try.
Again the Titans came back with a try on 68 minutes from Joe Beaty which Scott converted to make it a six point game.
But 10 minutes from the end it was Butterworth who settled the contest with his hat-trick try.
Ryan Scott picked-up the man of the match award for the home side while Luke Charlton, a recent addition to Workington Town’s squad, who won the nomination for Hensingham A.
In another League game Kells A were 30-12 winners at Lowca after they had led 12-0 at the break.
Aaron Burns (2), Jamie Jennings, Connor Hetherington, Casey Chambers and Bailey Morton scored the Kells tries. Burns kicked two goals and Harley Nelson added a third.
The Lowca tries came from Adam Byers and James McNally with two converted by Jamie Scott.
