Work has begun to resurface a Lake District road and drivers are urged to plan their journeys.

Contractors have started on the A6 at Eamont Bridge to carry out drainage work and resurfacing and plan to be there for five days.

They are working 100m south of the road bridge to the junction of the B5320, Pooley Bridge Road.

The A6 will remain open under traffic signal control with some convoy working, and traffic marshalls will be on site to monitor the flow of traffic.

A closure of the B5320 junction at The Crown Eamont Bridge will be in place until Thursday and there will be evening work on Thursday to complete the project.

Businesses in the area will be open as usual and can be accessed via a fully signed diversion on the A66 west and A592 through Pooley Bridge.

Westmorland and Furness Council said: “We advise road users to plan their journey to allow for possible long delays during peak periods of the day or find an alternative route where possible.”

Councillor Peter Thornton, cabinet member for highways and assets, said: “We are carrying out these essential resurfacing and drainage works at this time to maximise daylight hours and make sure the works are complete before the peak summer holiday period and the start of Kendal Calling.”
