Carlisle College is celebrating after one of its apprentices won a national award.
Deniss Fridenbergs, who is a plastering apprentice with Brian Horn, won British Gypsum plastering apprentice of the year.
He has represented the college in two regional skill building competitions and is set to do so again for a third year this summer.
He also won construction apprentice of the year at the Carlisle College apprenticeship awards which were held earlier this year.
The college said Deniss demonstrates a maturity beyond his years showing an equal commitment to his work on site, as well as his apprenticeship programme.
It added he is a studious learner, exceeding his required off the job hours months prior to his apprenticeship end date and producing portfolio examples across the breadth of his vast apprenticeship standard.
Having shown such positive progress and attitude within his own apprenticeship with employer Brian Horn, Deniss is now working as a mentor for a new apprentice on-site.
He has also actively participated in and led sessions with school leavers, to inspire the next generation of plastering apprentices and promote his trade within the local community.
Ryan Seeley, skills partnerships manager, British Gypsum, said: “Deniss has been selected as the British Gypsum Apprentice of the Year due to his inspirational work ethic, his admirable attitude, and his willingness to go above and beyond for his college, his fellow students, and his employer.
“Deniss is a model apprentice, who deserves not only the prize and trophy, but also the recognition of all of his hard work and dedication to the craft of plastering.
“We hope his success will inspire future aspiring plasterers to follow in his footsteps and continue to raise the bar for what a plastering apprentice can achieve.”
His employer Brain Horn Plastering said: “Deniss is without doubt a breath of fresh air. From day one his attitude to work has been impeccable! His willingness to learn has made my job easy! This young man is a true credit to his parents, to himself, to me and to the construction industry.”
