Workington Reds have re-signed Bobby Carroll for 2023/24 – a big boost to manager Danny Grainger’s planning after promotion.
Carroll, the former Everton youngster, was Workington’s young player of the year last season and developed into a key member of the side.
He had been well thought of at Goodison until an injury curtailed his development and after a brief stay with Chorley joined Reds to kickstart his career – which he did successfully.
Carroll said: “I am delighted to sign again for Workington, as the players, staff and fans have made this an easy decision for me.
“We had a fantastic season and I can’t wait to help the team push on again next season.”
Grainger added: “I’m so pleased to get Bobby back again because we saw how much he contributes to the team – not just quality on the ball but with his aggression and determination out of possession.
“I think he has learnt, too, from the senior players in the squad and he can go on to have a very good career in the game.
“We are sad to see Matty Clarke, Ruben Jerome, Ben Hughes and Charlie Birch move on from last season but that’s football.
“I know we are happy with the squad we have but would like to add two or three more.
“My main priority is for a right winger with Ben and Ruben moving on and I am currently talking to a player who could fill that role.”
- Reds launched their Budget Booster campaign on June 1 and at the half-way stage – it will only operate for a month – it stands at £15,000.
