Dav Symington and Jim Atkinson selected for NPL West Division squad

Workington Reds have two players in the NPL West Division squad, selected as the sections Team of the Year.

Top scorer Dav Symington, who was Reds Player of the Year, is included in the starting line-up with goalkeeper Jim Atkinson on the bench.

Both are among the players who have re-signed for Reds as they prepare for life in the higher Premier Division next season.

Champions Macclesfield have four players in the starting line-up; Runcorn Linnets, whom Reds beat in the play-off final, have one in the starting X1 and two on the bench while League runners-up Leek Town have three in the eleven and another on the bench.

Atkinson loses out to the Runcorn keeper Danny Taberner who has now joined Guiseley for the 2023/24 season.

One of the Runcorn players on the bench is Sam Heathcote, whose own goal at Borough Park pulled Reds level in the final which they went on to win 2-1 in extra time.

Heathcote has subsequently moved on and will be back at Borough Park again next season after joining champions Macclesfield.

The starting X1 ws chosen as: Danny Taberner (Runcorn Linnets), Louis Keenan (Leek Town), Oliver Harrison (Leek Town), Laurent Mendy (Macclesfield), Tre Pemberton (Macclesfield), Marc Grocott (Leek Town), Neil Danns (Macclesfield), Dav Symington (Workington), Sefton Gonzales (Clitheroe), James Berry (Macclesfield), Elliot Morris (Skelmersdale).

The bench – Jim Atkinson (Workington), Ally Brown (Runcorn Linnets), Sam Heathcote (Runcorn Linnets), Daniel Trickett-Smith (Leek Town), Mason Fawns (Mossley).
